Basal Ganglia Injection

Basal ganglia injection is a stereotaxic technique for delivering a defined substance into nuclei such as the striatum, globus pallidus, or substantia nigra to study neural circuits and function. Guided by brain coordinates, an injection needle or cannula is positioned at the target, and a controlled volume is released to deposit tracers, pharmacological agents, viral vectors, or other experimental reagents within local tissue. This method supports circuit tracing, targeted manipulation of neuronal activity, and investigation of movement, learning, reward, and neurological disorders. Precise targeting and verification of injection sites are essential for interpreting experimental outcomes.

Afferent vagal signaling transmits important information to central nervous system from receptors located in organs of the abdomen and thorax. The nodose ganglia of vagus nerves contain many types of receptors that modulate vagal activity. This protocol describes a method of local injections of neurochemicals into the nodose ganglia.

Isolation of Cells from Sensory Ganglia

2025

This video demonstrates the isolation of cells from the sensory ganglia of mice. Ganglia are subjected to enzymatic digestion to dissolve the extracellular matrix. Single cells are then collected via filtering through a cell strainer followed by density gradient centrifugation for debris removal. Finally, washing and centrifugation are done to collect the isolated cells for future analysis.

Marine snail Aplysia californica has been widely used as a neurobiology model for the studies on cellular and molecular basis of behavior. Here a methodology is described for exploring the nervous system of Aplysia for the electrophysiological and molecular analyses of single neurons of identified neural circuitry.

This manuscript describes how to prepare intact dorsal root ganglia for patch clamp recordings. This preparation maintains the microenvironment for neurons and satellite glial cells, thus avoiding the phenotypic and functional changes seen using dissociated DRG neurons.

Analyzing Tooth Germ and Trigeminal Ganglia Interactions Using a Microfluidic Co-culture System

2025

This video demonstrates the utilization of a microfluidic device to study the interactions between tooth germ pulp and trigeminal ganglia. It showcases the placement of tissues inside the microfluidic device and provides a detailed visualization of trigeminal neurite growth toward the tooth germ through the device's microgrooves. Additionally, it highlights the role of tooth-derived molecular factors in promoting or inhibiting neurite extension into the tooth germ pulp, which is crucial for...
