Monoclonal Expansion

Monoclonal expansion is the proliferation of descendants from a single, genetically related cell, producing a clonal population for studying cellular identity and behavior. In neuroscience, researchers typically isolate one neural stem cell, progenitor, or engineered cell and culture it under conditions that support survival and repeated mitotic division, allowing its progeny to multiply while retaining shared lineage characteristics. This approach helps assess self-renewal, differentiation, and cell-to-cell variation, and supports lineage tracing, disease modeling, drug screening, and preparation of defined cell populations for neural repair research. Comparing independently expanded clones can also reveal how genetic or environmental factors influence neuronal and glial development.

(2018).This video demonstrates the preparation of a monoclonal bacterial culture for mineral production through serial dilution and colony isolation on an agar plate. By shaking the plate with glass beads, individual cells are spatially separated to form genetically uniform colonies, which are then transferred to liquid media for growth. The culture with the...

Synthesis of human monoclonal antibodies is the first step in studies aimed at unraveling the pathophysiological mechanisms of auto-antibody-mediated immune responses. We have developed a protocol to generate recombinant human immunoglobulin G (IgG) monoclonal antibodies from blood sorted B cells, including B-cell isolation, antibody cloning and in vitro synthesis.

C57BL/6 mice have been used to study Hc pathogenesis and provide the best model. We are exploring the potential benefits of humoral immunity against this fungus and generated several mAbs [to histone H2B and a heat shock protein 60kDa] that we tested for their protective efficacy after intraperitoneal administration.

Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Thermal expansion is extremely important when considering which materials will be used in systems that experience fluctuations in temperature. A high or low thermal expansion in a material may or may not be desirable, depending on the application. For instance, in a common liquid thermometer, a material with a high thermal expansion would be...
