Committed Compliance

Committed compliance is a form of voluntary rule-following in which a child willingly accepts and acts on a caregiver’s request, reflecting emerging self-regulation rather than mere obedience under pressure. In developmental psychology, it develops as children internalize parental standards and coordinate their behavior with social expectations, especially when caregivers use reasoning, warmth, and consistent guidance. Researchers assess committed compliance through observations of children’s responses to everyday directives, distinguishing it from resistant or situational compliance. This construct helps clarify how external socialization becomes internally guided behavior and informs research on moral development, parent-child relationships, and the development of conscience.

In game theory, a credible commitment in sequential games is a strategy where a player influences another's decision by making a believable and enforceable promise or threat. Sequential games differ from simultaneous games as players act after observing the decision of another player, allowing the first player to shape the expectations and actions of the second. For such a commitment to be credible, it must be realistic and enforceable, ensuring both sides see cooperation as the most beneficial...

Lineage Commitment

Commitment is the process whereby stem cells: lose their ability to form all cell types and irreversibly change into a specific type. The multipotent hematopoietic stem cells, (HSCs), differentiate into the multipotent hematopoietic progenitor cells, (HPCs). The HPCs express many lineage-specific cytokine receptors. Each of these receptors binds specific cytokines, activates distinct signaling pathways, and expresses a particular gene set. The HPCs further differentiate to form committed...

The fate of an individual embryonic cell can be influenced by inherited molecules and/or by signals from neighboring cells. Utilizing fate maps of the cleavage stage Xenopus embryo, single blastomeres can be identified for culture in isolation to assess the contributions of inherited molecules versus cell-cell interactions.

Types of Underwriting: Firm Commitment

Firm commitment underwriting is a financing arrangement in which the underwriter guarantees a fixed sum to the issuing company by purchasing the entire securities offering outright. This mechanism is widely used in initial public offerings (IPOs) and large fundraising initiatives, offering the issuing company financial certainty and immediate access to capital. However, the risk of unsold or undervalued securities shifts entirely to the underwriter. The underwriter’s profitability hinges on...

Phenotypic Analysis and Isolation of Murine Hematopoietic Stem Cells and Lineage-committed Progenitors

A method to analyse the distribution of bone marrow hematopoietic progenitors in flow cytometry as well as to efficiently isolate highly purified hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is described. The isolation procedure is essentially based on magnetic enrichment of c-Kit+ cells and cell sorting to purify HSCs for cellular and molecular studies.
