Neurobehavioral Research

Neurobehavioral research is the interdisciplinary study of how brain function and nervous-system activity shape behavior, cognition, emotion, and social interaction. In psychology, it connects behavioral measurements with neural or physiological evidence, using methods such as controlled tasks, observation, neuroimaging, and recordings of biological signals to test how changes in neural processes correspond to changes in behavior. This approach helps explain learning, memory, motivation, decision-making, and psychological disorders while distinguishing biological influences from environmental and experiential factors. Its findings support more precise models of behavior and can inform assessment, prevention, and interventions for conditions affecting cognition and mental health.

A detailed experimental protocol is presented in this paper for the evaluation of neurobehavioral toxicity of environmental pollutants using a zebrafish larvae model, including the exposure process and tests for neurobehavioral indicators.

Neurobehavioral Assessments in a Mouse Model of Neonatal Hypoxic-ischemic Brain Injury

We performed unilateral carotid artery occlusion on postnatal day 7-10 CD-1 mouse pups to create a neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) model and investigated the effects of HI brain injury. We studied neurobehavioral functions in these mice compared to non-operated normal mice.

The Rodent Psychomotor Vigilance Test (rPVT): A Method for Assessing Neurobehavioral Performance in Rats and Mice

2016

A rat version of the human Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT) is described that measures aspects of attention similar to those measured with the human PVT, including aspects of human vigilance such as performance accuracy, motor speed, premature responding, and lapses in attention.

Larval Locomotion Assay: High-Throughput Method to Study Neurobehavioral Toxicity of a Compound in Zebrafish Larvae
