The WISC-V, or Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, is an individually administered cognitive assessment for children ages 6 years through 16 years, 11 months, designed to describe patterns of intellectual functioning. It uses standardized subtests to measure verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed, which combine into index scores and, when appropriate, a Full Scale IQ. Psychologists use these results alongside developmental history, behavior, and other assessments to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses and inform evaluations of learning difficulties, intellectual disability, giftedness, and educational support needs. The profile can also guide clinical planning and research on child cognitive development.

Quantification of donor-derived cells is required to monitor engraftment after stem cell transplantation in patients with hemoglobinopathies. A combination of flow cytometry-based cell sorting, colony formation assay, and subsequent analysis of short tandem repeats may be used to assess the proliferation and differentiation of progenitors in the erythroid compartment.
