Sport Performance

Sport performance is the measurable execution of physical, technical, and mental skills during training or competition, shaped by both individual capacity and behavior. It develops through repeated practice, goal setting, attentional control, motivation, and feedback, which strengthen skill learning and help athletes regulate effort, arousal, and decision-making under pressure. In behavioral science, studying sport performance clarifies how habits, coaching environments, team interactions, and psychological strategies influence outcomes. These insights support evidence-based training, performance assessment, coaching interventions, and the design of routines that promote consistent execution across changing competitive conditions.

Objectively Assessing Sports Concussion Utilizing Visual Evoked Potentials

2021

A portable system capable of measuring steady-state visual-evoked potentials was developed and trialed on 65 amateur rugby players over 18 weeks to investigate SSVEP as a potential electrophysiological biomarker for concussion. Players' baselines were measured pre-season, with retesting for reliability, concussion, and recovery assessment being conducted within controlled time-periods, respectively.

Exercise is capable of inducing apoptosis in immune cells. There are various measurement limitations, particularly relating to the amount of time required to isolate and treat a blood sample prior to the assessment. Demonstrated is a rapid and minimally invasive procedure for the analysis of exercise-induced lymphocyte apoptosis.

Exercise and Muscle Performance

2024

Exercise induces a range of adaptations in muscle tissue, depending on the type and duration of activity. Such physical training can be broadly categorized into two types: endurance exercises and resistance exercises. Endurance exercises Endurance exercises involve running, swimming, or cycling, which require repetitive movements with low force output. When a person engages in endurance exercise, a few noticeable changes occur in their skeletal muscles. For instance, the number of capillaries...
