6-well Plate

A 6-well plate is a laboratory culture vessel divided into six separate wells, allowing researchers to grow, treat, and compare biological samples under controlled conditions. Each well functions as an independent experimental chamber, while a shared lid and standardized footprint support consistent incubation, media changes, imaging, and handling. In bioengineering, researchers use 6-well plates for cell culture, biomaterial evaluation, transfection studies, and preliminary tissue-engineering experiments, often assigning wells to different treatments or controls. This format balances sample capacity with relatively large working volumes and accessible surfaces, making it useful for optimizing protocols before scaling to larger cultures or more complex systems.

Generating the 6-hydroxydopamine Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease

This video demonstrates a procedure to create a rat model of Parkinson's disease by injecting the neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the brain. The neurotoxin infusion into the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) specifically targets dopaminergic neurons responsible for motor control, leading to their destruction and replicating Parkinson's disease symptoms.

2026

Piaget’s sensorimotor stage describes cognitive development from birth to approximately two years. During this stage, infants progress from reflexive behavior toward intentional action and early symbolic thought. Substages four through six show major advances in problem-solving, experimentation, and mental representation.Substage 4: Coordination of Secondary Circular ReactionsFrom approximately 8 to 12 months, infants begin coordinating previously learned behaviors to achieve specific goals.

Jet Impinging on an Inclined Plate

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI The goal of this experiment is to demonstrate how a fluid flow exerts forces on structures by conversion of dynamic pressure into static pressure. To this end, we will make a plane jet impinge on a flat plate and will measure the resulting pressure distribution along the plate. The resultant force will be estimated by integrating the product between the...

Source: Jonathan F. Blaize1, Elizabeth Suter1, and Christopher P. Corbo1 1 Department of Biological Sciences, Wagner College, 1 Campus Road, Staten Island NY, 10301 Quantitative assessment of prokaryotes can be onerous given their abundance, propensity for exponential proliferation, species diversity within a population, and specific physiological needs. Compounding this challenge, is the four-phase nature in which bacteria replicate (lag, log, stationary and death). The ability to accurately...
