Facs Collection

FACS collection is the process of isolating selected cell populations using fluorescence-activated cell sorting, a flow cytometry method that separates individual cells according to measurable physical and fluorescent properties. Cells pass in a fluid stream through laser interrogation, where detectors identify labeled markers; droplets containing target cells are then electrically charged and deflected into separate collection vessels. In bioengineering, FACS collection enables the enrichment of specific cell types, engineered populations, or cells with defined functional characteristics for culture, molecular analysis, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. By producing relatively pure populations from heterogeneous samples, it supports precise downstream experiments and biomaterial or therapeutic development.

Murine Dermal Fibroblast Isolation by FACS

Fibroblast behavior underlies a spectrum of clinical entities, but they remain poorly characterized, largely due to their inherent heterogeneity. Traditional fibroblast research relies upon in vitro manipulation, masking in vivo fibroblast behavior. We describe a FACS-based protocol for the isolation of mouse skin fibroblasts that does not require cell culture.
