Plate Reader Assay

A plate reader assay is an analytical method that measures biochemical or cellular signals across multiple wells, enabling rapid and standardized experiments in biological research. A microplate reader detects signals such as absorbance, fluorescence, or luminescence from each well, either at a single endpoint or repeatedly over time to track reaction kinetics and cellular responses. Researchers use these assays to quantify enzyme activity, protein or nucleic acid content, cell viability, reporter-gene expression, and drug effects. Their scalable format supports experimental replicates, dose-response studies, and high-throughput screening while reducing sample volume and measurement time.

Introduction to the Microplate Reader

2023

The microplate reader is a multimodal instrument that allows for a variety of experiments to be performed and measured simultaneously. Microplate readers can make absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measurements. Multiwell plates are integral to the microplate reader and allow for many experiments to be performed at once. Regardless of the assay type, experiments on the plate reader utilize a standard curve to determine the experimental values. This curve uses samples of known...
