Chemical Inducer

A chemical inducer is a molecule that initiates or increases a specific biological response, often by activating gene expression or altering cellular behavior. In molecular biology, an inducer typically binds a regulatory protein, such as a repressor or transcription factor, changing its activity and allowing target genes to be transcribed under defined conditions. Researchers use chemical inducers to control recombinant protein production, study regulatory pathways, manipulate cell differentiation, and create experimental models of disease. Their dose, timing, and cellular context can influence the strength and duration of the response, making inducer selection important for reproducible biological experiments.

This protocol illustrates a chemically induced protein dimerization system to create condensates on chromatin. The formation of promyelocytic leukemia (PML) nuclear body on telomeres with chemical dimerizers is demonstrated. Droplet growth, dissolution, localization and composition are monitored with live cell imaging, immunofluorescence (IF) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Chemical-induced Two-stage Skin Carcinogenesis Model: An Experimental In Vivo Mouse Model of Skin Cancer

2023

This video describes the procedure to induce two-stage skin carcinogenesis to study tumor initiation by topical application of chemicals. In the first step, a mutagen, DMBA, is applied onto the skin of a mouse model which initiates tumor formation by causing mutations in the stem cells, followed by the application of a growth stimulator, TPA, which accelerates skin papilloma formation.

Chemical Formulas

2020

A chemical formula presents information about the proportions of atoms constituting a particular chemical compound or molecule, mainly using symbols of elements and numbers. At times other symbols, such as dashes, parentheses, brackets, commas, plus, and minus signs, are also used. A chemical formula can be one of three types – molecular, empirical, and structural. Molecular Formula The molecular formula represents a molecule or a chemical compound using chemical symbols (to indicate the...

Chemical Equations

2020

Chemical equations represent the identities and relative quantities of substances involved in a chemical reaction. The substances undergoing reaction are called reactants, and their formulas are placed on the left side of the equation. The substances generated by the reaction are called products, and their formulas are placed on the right side of the equation. Plus signs (+) separate individual reactant and product formulas, and an arrow (→) separates the reactant and product (left and right)...
