Culture Medium Preparation

Culture medium preparation is the process of formulating and sterilizing nutrient-rich solutions or solid materials that support the growth and maintenance of cells, tissues, or microorganisms under laboratory conditions. It involves combining appropriate nutrients, salts, water, and growth factors, then adjusting conditions such as pH and osmolarity before sterilization and storage. Carefully prepared media provide cells with controlled chemical and physical environments, while preventing contamination that could alter experimental results. In biology, culture media support microbial cultivation, cell-based assays, tissue culture, genetic studies, and research on physiology, disease, and responses to drugs or environmental conditions.

(2021).This video demonstrates the preparation of an artificial sputum medium that mimics the viscosity, nutrient composition, and pH of cystic fibrosis lung sputum. The resulting medium provides a physiologically relevant platform for ex vivo studies.
