Electromyogram Recordings

Electromyogram (EMG) recordings are measurements of the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles, providing a noninvasive or minimally invasive way to study how muscles are activated. Electrodes placed on the skin or inserted into muscle detect voltage changes generated when motor neurons stimulate muscle fibers, and the resulting signals reflect the recruitment and activity of motor units. In biology, EMG recordings help characterize muscle function, coordination, fatigue, and neuromuscular disorders. They are used in physiology research, movement studies, rehabilitation, and biomedical investigations to relate electrical signals to force, posture, and motor control.

Analyzing Sleep Behavior in Mice through Electroencephalogram and Electromyogram Recordings

2025

This video demonstrates a protocol for implanting an electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) electrode assembly in an anesthetized mouse. The process involves securing the mouse on a stereotaxic frame, making a midline incision in the skull, drilling holes for the electrodes, and fixing the electrode unit for signal recording. After recovery, the mouse's sleep-wake behavior is analyzed using the recorded signals.

Simultaneous Recordings of Cortical Local Field Potentials, Electrocardiogram, Electromyogram, and Breathing Rhythm from a Freely Moving Rat

This study introduces a method for the simultaneous recording of local field potentials in the brain, electrocardiograms, electromyograms, and breathing signals of a freely moving rat. This technique, which reduces experimental costs and simplifies data analysis, will contribute to the understanding of the interactions between the brain and peripheral organs.

The recording of electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) in freely behaving mice is a critical step to correlate behavior and physiology with sleep and wakefulness. The experimental protocol described herein provides a cable-based system for acquiring EEG and EMG recordings in mice.

Electroencephalography-Based Recording Technique to Record the Epileptiform Activity

2025

This video describes the technique for recording the epileptiform activity of rhinal cortex-hippocampus organotypic slices ex vivo using electrophysiology or EEG set-up. This helps to study the dynamics and progression of epileptogenesis and screen potential therapeutic targets to treat epilepsy.

Data Reporting and Recording

2023

Reporting and recording are crucial in data documentation. The timely, thorough, and accurate documentation of facts is essential when recording patient data. Failure to record findings during an assessment or interpretation of a problem will result in loss of information and make the patient document unreliable. The reader is left with general impressions if the information is not specific. A recording is documenting data of the individual's health information in a traceable, secure, and...
