Microbial Synergy

Microbial synergy is a biological interaction in which two or more microorganisms work together so that their combined activity produces effects greater than those achieved independently. This cooperation can involve metabolic cross-feeding, where one microbe consumes another’s waste products, or complementary enzyme production that enables the breakdown of complex nutrients. Microbial synergy supports nutrient cycling, decomposition, biofilm formation, and stability within microbial communities. Studying these interactions helps researchers understand ecosystems, host-associated microbiomes, wastewater treatment, fermentation, and potential strategies for improving biotechnology and environmental remediation.

Gains from Acquisition: Synergy

2025

Synergies in corporate acquisitions represent the additional value generated when two companies combine, exceeding the sum of their independent contributions. These synergies typically arise from cost efficiencies, revenue growth, and strategic advantages. Financially, synergy is measured as the Net Present Value (NPV) of future benefits minus integration costs, reflecting the post-acquisition increase in value. Cost synergies are achieved by streamlining operations, eliminating redundancies,...

Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing: Epsilometer Tests to Determine MIC Values of Two Antibiotics and Evaluate Antibiotic Synergy

In 1928, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, an antibiotic that exerts its antibacterial function by interfering with cell wall regeneration (1). Other antibiotics with diverse mechanisms of...
