Plasmid Transfection Efficiency

Plasmid transfection efficiency is the proportion of cells that successfully take up an introduced plasmid and express its genetic cargo, making it a key measure of experimental performance in biology. Transfection methods use chemical carriers, physical forces, or biological systems to deliver plasmid DNA across the cell membrane and into the nucleus, where the encoded gene can be transcribed. Efficiency depends on factors such as cell type, plasmid design, DNA quality, delivery conditions, and cell health. Measuring it helps researchers optimize gene expression for protein production, reporter assays, functional studies, and investigations of cellular processes.
