En Bloc Retrieval

En bloc retrieval is the removal of a tissue specimen, lesion, or tumor in a single intact piece rather than in fragments, helping preserve its structure for accurate examination. During the procedure, the target is separated from surrounding tissue along a planned dissection or resection boundary, then extracted without disrupting its internal organization. In cancer research and surgical oncology, en bloc retrieval supports assessment of tumor architecture, margins, invasion, and relationships with adjacent tissues. It can improve histopathological interpretation, inform staging and treatment decisions, and provide better-preserved material for studying tumor biology and evaluating emerging diagnostic or therapeutic approaches.

Retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory storage and back into conscious awareness. This ability is essential for daily tasks like brushing hair and teeth, driving to work, and performing job duties. Retrieval occurs in three ways: recall, recognition, and relearning. Recall involves accessing information without cues, such as during an essay test, where individuals must retrieve facts and concepts from memory unaided. Another example is remembering the name of a colleague...
