Tumor Induction Technique

Tumor induction technique refers to experimental methods used to generate tumors in animal models or other biological systems, enabling researchers to study cancer initiation, progression, and treatment. Depending on the model, investigators induce tumor formation by exposing tissues to chemical carcinogens, introducing oncogenic alterations, or implanting tumor cells, then assess outcomes such as lesion growth, histopathology, and molecular signaling. In cancer research, these approaches connect genetic and environmental drivers with tumor biology, support evaluation of candidate therapies, and provide controlled systems for comparing disease phenotypes. The selected method influences tumor timing, location, reproducibility, and relevance to human cancer.

2017

Mosaic clone analysis in Drosophila imaginal disc epithelia is a powerful model system to study the genetic and cellular mechanisms of tumorigenesis. Here we describe a protocol to induce tumors in Drosophila wing imaginal discs using the GAL4-UAS system, and introduce a diagnosis method to classify the tumor phenotypes.

Orthotopic Homograft Tumor Transplantation: A Technique to Generate Pancreatic Tumor Mouse Models

2023

The video explains a stepwise surgical method for orthotopic implantation of a tumor fragment from a cancerous donor to the pancreas of a non-cancerous recipient mice for development of pancreatic cancer. Orthotopically implanted PDAC could recapture the tissue microenvironment of human pancreatic cancers than conventional subcutaneous (SC) models more accurately.

Irreversible Electroporation: A Technique for Ablating Pancreatic Tumor in Mouse

2023

This video describes the procedure for performing irreversible electroporation (IRE) for non-thermal ablation of pancreatic tumors in mice. Both subcutaneous (SQ) and orthotopic tumors can be successfully treated with IRE in a highly controlled setting, facilitating various studies post-procedure.

FFPE Tumor Tissue Macrodissection: A Technique to Obtain Specific Tumorous Tissue from Unstained Specimens

2023

This video describes a method for the manual macrodissection of cancer tissue from unstained tissue specimens to obtain a specific cancer tissue. The tissue section can be processed further to obtain DNA for genome-wide studies on gastrointestinal cancers.

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...
