Chemical Model Complexes

Chemical model complexes are deliberately simplified molecular systems that reproduce selected structural or reactive features of larger coordination compounds or active sites. They work by isolating a metal center, ligand environment, or reactive bond in a well-defined complex, allowing researchers to vary coordination geometry, oxidation state, ligand donor properties, and reaction conditions while monitoring changes in bonding and reactivity. In chemistry, these complexes help test mechanistic proposals for catalysis, bioinorganic reactions, and materials-related processes without the complexity of a full catalyst or metalloprotein. Their controlled design supports spectroscopy, kinetics, and structure–function comparisons that guide catalyst development and molecular design.

This protocol is designed to demonstrate exposure method of cell cultures to inhaled toxic chemicals. Exposure of differentiated air-liquid interface (ALI) cultures of airway epithelial cells provides a unique model of airway exposure to toxic gases such as chlorine. In this manuscript we describe effect of chlorine exposure on air-liquid interface cultures of epithelial cells and submerged culture of cardiomyocytes. In vitro exposure systems allow important mechanistic studies to evaluate...

Chemical Formulas

2020

A chemical formula presents information about the proportions of atoms constituting a particular chemical compound or molecule, mainly using symbols of elements and numbers. At times other symbols, such as dashes, parentheses, brackets, commas, plus, and minus signs, are also used. A chemical formula can be one of three types – molecular, empirical, and structural. Molecular Formula The molecular formula represents a molecule or a chemical compound using chemical symbols (to indicate the...

In this study, we describe an improved protocol for a multiplexed high-throughput antibody microarray with lectin detection method that can be used in glycosylation profiling of specific proteins. This protocol features new reliable reagents and significantly reduces the time, cost, and lab equipment requirements as compared to the previous procedure.

Chemical-induced Two-stage Skin Carcinogenesis Model: An Experimental In Vivo Mouse Model of Skin Cancer

2023

This video describes the procedure to induce two-stage skin carcinogenesis to study tumor initiation by topical application of chemicals. In the first step, a mutagen, DMBA, is applied onto the skin of a mouse model which initiates tumor formation by causing mutations in the stem cells, followed by the application of a growth stimulator, TPA, which accelerates skin papilloma formation.
