Deuterated Chloroform

Deuterated chloroform (CDCl3) is a form of chloroform in which the hydrogen atom is replaced by deuterium, making it a widely used solvent for solution-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This isotopic substitution greatly reduces the solvent’s proton signal in 1H NMR while providing a deuterium signal that helps the instrument stabilize the magnetic field and reference chemical shifts. Because CDCl3 dissolves many organic compounds and is relatively unreactive toward numerous samples, chemists use it to prepare samples for structural analysis, monitor reactions, and assess purity. Its spectra and solvent properties also support routine characterization in research and teaching laboratories.

Synthesis of a Deuterated Standard for the Quantification of 2-Arachidonoylglycerol in Caenorhabditis elegans

2019

This work describes a robust and straightforward method to detect and quantify the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) in C. elegans. An analytical deuterated standard us prepared and used for the quantification of 2-AG by isotopic dilution and liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS).

Colletotrichum fioriniae Development in Water and Chloroform-based Blueberry and Cranberry Floral Extracts

2019

Here, bioassays designed to monitor the development of a fungal pathogen, Colletotrichum fioriniae, in the presence of blueberry or cranberry floral extracts on glass coverslips are described. Water-, chloroform-, and field rainwater- based floral extraction techniques are detailed as well as insight into how this information can be applied.

Molecular Orbital (MO) Theory

2023

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University This protocol serves as a guide in the synthesis of two metal complexes featuring the ligand 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf): M(dppf)Cl2, where M = Ni or Pd. While both of these transition metal complexes are 4-coordinate, they exhibit different geometries at the metal center. Using molecular orbital (MO) theory in conjunction with 1H NMR and Evans method, we will determine the geometry of these two...
