Precision Agriculture

Precision agriculture is a data-driven approach to managing crops and agricultural resources according to differences within and among fields, improving efficiency and sustainability. It combines GPS, geographic information systems, remote sensing, and field sensors to measure conditions such as soil moisture, nutrient availability, crop vigor, and yield, then uses these data to guide site-specific decisions. Engineering systems convert measurements into variable-rate applications of seed, fertilizer, water, or pesticides, while automated equipment supports accurate implementation. By reducing unnecessary inputs and revealing spatial patterns in crop performance, precision agriculture can improve yields, conserve resources, lower operating costs, and strengthen resilience in modern farming.

A protocol involving integrated concentration, enrichment, and end-point colorimetric detection of foodborne pathogens in large volumes of agricultural water is presented here. Water is filtered through Modified Moore Swabs (MMS), enriched with selective or non-selective media, and detection is performed using paper-based analytical devices (µPAD) imbedded with bacterial-indicative colorimetric substrates.
