Proton Therapy Applications

Proton therapy applications encompass the use of high-energy proton beams to deliver radiation doses to tumors while limiting exposure to nearby healthy tissue. Unlike conventional X-rays, protons deposit relatively little energy as they enter the body and release most of their dose near a selected depth through the Bragg peak, enabling precise treatment planning. Engineering supports this approach through particle accelerators, beam-transport systems, treatment gantries, imaging, and dose-control technologies that shape and position the beam. These systems are particularly relevant for tumors near sensitive organs and for advancing radiation therapy toward greater precision, improved safety, and more personalized treatment.

2023

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University The United States consumes a large amount of energy – the current rate is around 97.5 quadrillion BTUs annually. The vast majority (90%) of this energy comes from non-renewable fuel sources. This energy is used for electricity (39%), transportation (28%), industry (22%), and residential/commercial use (11%). As the world has a limited supply of these non-renewable sources, the United States (among others) is...

In this protocol, baculovirus is produced by transient transfection of baculovirus plasmid into Sf9 cells and amplified in a serum-free suspension culture. The supernatant is purified by heparin affinity chromatography and further concentrated by ultracentrifugation. This protocol is useful for the production and purification of baculovirus for gene therapy application.

Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive primary brain malignancy in adults, with most tumors recurring after initial treatment. Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy is the newest treatment modality for glioblastoma. Here, we describe the proper application of TTFields-transducer arrays on patients and discuss theory and aspects of treatment.
