Pellet Durability

Pellet durability is the ability of compressed pellets to retain their shape and resist breakage, abrasion, and fines during handling, storage, and transport. It depends on how strongly particles bind during compaction, with feedstock composition, moisture content, particle size, pressure, and natural or added binders influencing the resulting structure. In environmental applications, durable biomass fuel pellets generate fewer airborne fines and maintain more consistent fuel quality, supporting efficient storage, distribution, and combustion. Measuring durability therefore helps evaluate pellet performance, reduce material losses, and improve the practical use of densified renewable biomass.

Brick Durability, Strength, and Appearance

2024

Brick durability, strength, and appearance are crucial factors in construction, influencing the choice of bricks for specific applications. The process of freeze-thaw, for instance, significantly affects brick durability. This phenomenon occurs when water absorbed by a brick expands as it freezes, potentially causing damage when it melts and refreezes. Bricks are graded for durability: SW-grade bricks are the most durable, offering high strength and low water absorption, followed by MW-grade...

A Testing Platform for Durability Studies of Polymers and Fiber-reinforced Polymer Composites under Concurrent Hygrothermo-mechanical Stimuli

2014

The durability of polymers and fiber-reinforced polymer composites in service is a critical aspect for their designs and condition-based maintenance. We present a novel low-cost laboratory testing platform for the investigation of the influence of concurrent mechanical and environmental loadings, and may help design more efficient yet safer composite structures.

Microplastics act as vector of potentially toxic organic contaminants with unpredictable effects. This protocol describes an alternative methodology for assessing the levels of organochlorine pesticides adsorbed on plastic pellets and identifying the polymer chemical structure. The focus is on pressurized fluid extraction and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
