Naked Eye Detection

Naked eye detection is the identification of a biological feature or experimental result without a microscope, instrument, or other specialized imaging device. In genetics, it works when a genetic difference produces a sufficiently visible signal, such as a change in organismal appearance, colony morphology, or assay color, that can be distinguished by contrast against its surroundings. This approach can support preliminary screening of inherited traits, genetically modified organisms, and simple molecular tests, while reducing equipment requirements and accelerating interpretation. Because visual assessment is less sensitive and more subjective than instrument-based analysis, it is most useful for clear signals and should be confirmed with appropriate genetic or molecular methods.

2016

In this manuscript, periodate oxidation and glutaraldehyde cross-linking methods for covalent immobilization of antibodies on paper discs are presented. The binding activity of immobilized antibodies was evaluated. Based on these results, a glutaraldehyde cross-linking method was used to develop a novel paper-based immunoassay for immunoglobulin G (IgG) detection.

Eye Tracking in Cognitive Experiments

2023

Eye tracking as the name suggests involves tracking of eye-movements. It is a non-invasive, sensitive tool that quantifies and measures eye-movements to describe an individuals' cognitive state. An eye-movement between two fixation points is called a saccade, which is one of the fastest motor movements in our body. By observing the profiles of these eye movements, scientists can better understand neural deficits in patients with cognitive impairments. In this video, we will first look at an...

Eye Movement Monitoring of Memory

Eye movement monitoring (or eye tracking) reveals where in space the eyes linger, when and for how long. Here, we demonstrate how eye tracking can be used to investigate the integrity of memory in multiple participant populations, without requiring verbal, or otherwise explicit, reports.

Trabecular Meshwork Response to Pressure Elevation in the Living Human Eye

Trabecular meshwork (TM) migration into Schlemm’s canal space can be induced by acute pressure elevation by ophthalmodynamometer, and observed by spectral domain optical coherence tomography. The goal of this method is to quantify the morphometric response of the living outflow tract to acute pressure elevation in living tissues in situ.
