Rapid Pathogen Detection

Rapid Pathogen Detection refers to methods that identify infectious microorganisms or their biological markers faster than conventional culture-based testing, supporting timely diagnosis and infection control. These approaches detect pathogen-specific nucleic acids, proteins, or immune responses through processes such as molecular amplification, antigen recognition, or biosensor-based signal generation, often using clinical or environmental samples. In immunology and infection research, rapid detection helps characterize host-pathogen interactions, guide antimicrobial decisions, track outbreaks, and assess treatment responses. Improved speed and analytical sensitivity can strengthen surveillance and enable earlier intervention, particularly when conventional culture is slow or pathogens are difficult to grow.

2026

MALDI-TOF MS has transformed clinical microbiology by offering a rapid and reliable method for pathogen identification. The traditional approach to microbial identification typically involves time-consuming culture techniques and biochemical tests, which can delay the initiation of appropriate antimicrobial therapy. MALDI-TOF MS avoids these delays by using characteristic ribosomal protein mass patterns of microbial cells, enabling accurate species-level identification within minutes.Principle...
