Foci Distance

Foci distance is the separation between the two focus points that define an ellipse or hyperbola, linking a conic section’s shape to its focal structure. In standard form, the foci lie on the major axis of an ellipse or the transverse axis of a hyperbola at coordinates ±c, so their distance is 2c; for an ellipse, c² = a² − b², while for a hyperbola, c² = a² + b². Calculating foci distance helps determine eccentricity, identify conic parameters, and interpret coordinate equations. It also supports models of reflective paths, planetary orbits, and other systems described by elliptical or hyperbolic geometry.

Assessing DNA Damage Foci: To Identify Radiation-Induced DNA Damage Foci in Cancer Cell Line Using Immunofluorescence Staining

2023

This video describes a protocol to detect radiation-induced DNA repair foci in the colon cancer cell lines using immunofluorescence staining. DNA repair proteins get activated at the DNA damage site; therefore, we can detect them using specific antibodies and visualize them under a fluorescence microscope.

Quantitation of DNA double-strand breaks on the basis of γH2AX foci has become an invaluable tool, particularly in radiation biology, for the evaluation of tissue radiosensitivity and effects of radiation modifying compounds. Here we demonstrate the use of an immunofluorescence assay for quantitation of γH2AX foci in tissue samples.

Distance Problem

When an object's velocity changes over time, the total distance traveled can be determined by summing small displacement intervals over short increments. This approach approximates the true distance through numerical summation and the use of integral calculus. An estimate of the total displacement can be obtained by measuring velocity at regular intervals and multiplying each value by the corresponding time step.If a runner accelerates over the first three seconds of a race, speed measurements...

Stress Granules (SGs) are nonmembranous cytoplasmic structures that form in cells exposed to a variety of stresses. SGs contain mRNAs, RNA-binding proteins, small ribosomal subunits, translation-related factors, and various cell signaling proteins. This protocol describes a workflow that uses several experimental approaches to detect, characterize, and quantify bona fide SGs.
