24-hour Organ Preservation

24-hour Organ Preservation is the maintenance of a donor organ’s structure and function for approximately one day between recovery and transplantation, helping extend the time available for safe clinical use. It typically combines controlled temperature with ex vivo machine perfusion, which circulates an oxygenated preservation solution containing nutrients through the organ’s vasculature while removing metabolic waste. This approach can limit ischemic injury, support ongoing cellular metabolism, and provide functional information about organ viability before implantation. By allowing longer transport, more flexible scheduling, and potential recovery of organs initially considered unsuitable, 24-hour preservation may expand the donor pool and improve transplant coordination in medicine.

Holter Monitor: 24-Hour Monitoring

2025

Holter monitoring is a continuous electrocardiography (ECG) recording that tracks the heart's electrical activity over an extended period, generally 24 to 48 hours. This noninvasive diagnostic tool detects irregular heart rhythms that may not be captured during a standard ECG performed in a clinical setting.DeviceThe Holter monitor is a portable, small device connected to several electrodes on the patient's chest. These electrodes detect the heart's electrical signals and transmit them to the...

This work describes the preparation of cell extract from Escherichia coli (E. coli) followed by cell-free protein synthesis (CFPS) reactions in under 24 hours. Explanation of the cell-free autoinduction (CFAI) protocol details improvements made to reduce researcher oversight and increase quantities of cell extract obtained.

Innovative Strategies for Organ Preservation in Heart Transplantation: Uniform Cooling Preservation and Ex-situ Normothermic Perfusion

2025

Donor heart preservation is a major determinant of success in heart transplantation. Technological advances have led to optimizing the conditions of preservation, along with a more accurate assessment of the donor heart before transplantation. We herein describe two innovative technologies currently applied for cardiac preservation: uniform cooling preservation and normothermic ex-situ heart perfusion.
