Artery Diameter Analysis

Artery diameter analysis is the quantitative measurement of an artery’s lumen width to assess vascular structure and function, making it important for identifying vessel narrowing, enlargement, or abnormal remodeling. The analysis determines the inner vessel boundaries from medical images, such as ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance scans, and may compare diameter changes across anatomical locations or phases of the cardiac cycle. In medicine, these measurements support the evaluation of stenosis, aneurysms, blood-flow regulation, and treatment responses. Standardized diameter analysis also enables reliable comparison among patients, time points, and research studies of vascular disease.

Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) is an important physiological phenomenon by which at alveolar hypoxia lung perfusion is matched to ventilation. The major vascular segment contributing to HPV is the intra-acinar artery. Here, we describe our protocol for the analysis of HPV of murine pulmonary vessels with diameters of 20-100 μm.

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A propeller is a twisted airfoil, where the angle of the chord changes with respect to the location, along the radial station, as shown in Figure 1. Propellers are widely used in aircraft and watercraft propulsion systems thereby necessitating detailed characterizations of propellers to design high performance vehicles. Figure 1. Chord, thickness, and pitch at a radial station. One of...

Blood pressure monitoring is one of the essential vital signs, and for a majority of patients, measuring it utilizing non-invasive techniques provides accurate values. However, there are situations in which the blood pressure requires more exact, specific, and reliable measurements.

This article describes a method for visualizing rat cerebral arteries through a cranial window using temporal craniectomy in order to view proximal portions of the middle cerebral artery (Figure 1). This versatile method can be combined with various techniques of drug delivery to measure cerebral artery reactivity in vivo.
