Biopsy Site Care

Biopsy site care refers to the cleaning, protection, and monitoring of skin or tissue areas after a biopsy, helping support healing and reduce complications. Care typically involves following instructions for keeping the wound clean and dry, applying a dressing when advised, avoiding unnecessary friction, and recognizing how normal inflammation differs from infection. Appropriate management can limit bleeding, irritation, wound disruption, and bacterial contamination while promoting tissue repair. In medicine, understanding biopsy site care helps patients and clinicians support recovery, identify problems such as increasing pain, redness, swelling, drainage, or fever, and determine when follow-up assessment is needed.
