Cuminum Cyminum

Cuminum cyminum is an aromatic flowering plant in the Apiaceae family whose dried seeds, commonly called cumin, are used as a culinary spice and traditional medicinal preparation. Its bioactive constituents, including cuminaldehyde and other volatile terpenes, may influence oxidative stress, inflammatory signaling, and gastrointestinal activity, although effects depend on preparation and dose. In medicine, cumin has been investigated for digestive support, antimicrobial activity, blood-glucose regulation, and antioxidant properties in laboratory and clinical research. These studies help clarify the potential and limitations of cumin-derived compounds while informing standardized herbal products and future therapeutic investigations.
