Lateral Pedicle Puncture

Lateral pedicle puncture is a minimally invasive spinal access technique that uses the vertebral pedicle as a bony corridor to reach the vertebral body while limiting disruption of surrounding tissues. Under fluoroscopic or computed tomography guidance, a needle enters from a posterolateral trajectory and advances through the pedicle according to defined bony landmarks and imaging views, allowing controlled placement within the vertebra. In medicine, this approach supports procedures such as vertebral biopsy, vertebroplasty, and kyphoplasty, where accurate access is essential for tissue sampling or cement delivery. Understanding the technique helps clinicians improve procedural precision, evaluate spinal lesions, and reduce complications associated with misplaced instruments.
