Mechanical Withdrawal Threshold

Mechanical withdrawal threshold is the minimum force that evokes a detectable withdrawal response to a controlled mechanical stimulus, providing a quantitative measure of mechanical sensitivity in pain research and medicine. Researchers typically apply calibrated von Frey filaments or similar force-controlled probes to a defined skin site and record the force at which an animal or participant withdraws; repeated trials help distinguish changes in sensory threshold from inconsistent testing. Lower thresholds indicate mechanical hypersensitivity or allodynia, while higher thresholds may reflect reduced sensitivity, making the assay useful for characterizing neuropathic and inflammatory pain, evaluating analgesic treatments, and relating behavioral responses to underlying sensory mechanisms.

Source: Kay Stewart, RVT, RLATG, CMAR; Valerie A. Schroeder, RVT, RLATG. University of Notre Dame, IN Blood collection is a common requirement for research studies that involve mice and rats. The method of blood withdrawal in mice and rats is dependent upon the volume of blood needed, the frequency of the sampling, the health status of the animal to be bled, and the skill level of the technician. All methods discussed-retro-orbital sinus bleeds, initial tail snip bleeds, and intracardiac...

Determining heat and mechanical pain threshold in inflamed skin of human subjects

2009

Algorithms assessing heat and mechanical pain thresholds in experimentally inflamed skin of human study subjects are shown. The two pain testing paradigms independently examine nociceptive processing by the two major peripheral nerve fiber populations transmitting pain, i.e., non-myelinated C fibers and small myelinated A-delta fibers.

Each method of collection has variations in the type of restraint required, the invasiveness of the procedure, and the necessity of a general anesthetic.1Historically, the use of the retro-orbital sinus cavity has been used, but not without debate. The controversy related to the potential tissue...

Withdrawal of a Partner

2026

A partner's withdrawal from a partnership signifies a significant change in the firm's composition, typically occurring due to voluntary retirement, health concerns, or other personal decisions. This event necessitates several accounting adjustments to ensure a fair settlement for the departing partner while maintaining the equity of continuing partners. The process involves determining the partner’s final capital balance by adjusting for their share in accumulated profits, reserves,...

Bonus to Partner upon Withdrawal

When a partner withdraws from a partnership, the payment may differ from the partner's capital account balance. Under the bonus method, this difference is treated as a bonus and recorded by adjusting the capital accounts of the remaining partners without revaluing the partnership's assets. If the retiring partner receives more than the capital account balance, the excess is a bonus to the retiring partner. The remaining partners' capital accounts are reduced according to their profit and loss...
