Mouse Aneurysm Model

A mouse aneurysm model is an in vivo experimental system used to reproduce key features of arterial aneurysm formation and progression, enabling controlled investigation of vascular disease. Depending on the model, researchers combine genetic susceptibility, hemodynamic stress, hypertension, vascular injury, or elastase-mediated weakening of the arterial wall to initiate localized vessel dilation. These models support analysis of inflammation, extracellular matrix degradation, smooth muscle cell responses, and rupture risk in abdominal or intracranial aneurysms. They also provide a platform for testing imaging approaches, identifying therapeutic targets, and evaluating candidate drugs before clinical studies, while allowing researchers to connect molecular mechanisms with measurable changes in vascular structure and function.

Histological and biochemical modifications after aneurysm endograft exclusion are still unclear. We describe a new model of endograft implantation on a murine aneurysm. Through thrombus analysis with and without persistant circulating blood stream interface, and new endovascular biomaterials evaluation, this model will help to better understand endovascular aneurysm exclusion pathobiology.

Microsurgical sidewall aneurysms in rats are created by end-to-side anastomosis of an aortic graft to the abdominal aorta. We present step-by-step instructions and discuss anatomical and surgical details for successful experimental saccular aneurysm creation.

This protocol provides a repeatable and reliable method for inducing abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in C57BL/6 mice using elastin sensitization and perivascular elastase application, as an AAA model that incorporates an immune-sensitization component.

Microsurgical Venous Pouch Arterial-Bifurcation Aneurysms in the Rabbit Model: Technical Aspects

An optimized technique for the microsurgical creation of arterial bifurcation aneurysms mimicking bifurcation human cerebral aneurysms is described. A venous pouch is sutured into an artificially created true bifurcation of both common carotid arteries. Facilitated microsurgical techniques and aggressive postoperative anticoagulation and analgesia lead to minimized morbidity rates and high aneurysm patency rates.
