Photo Elicitation

Photo elicitation is a qualitative research technique that uses photographs to prompt discussion, helping researchers examine experiences, perceptions, and meanings that may be difficult to express through conventional interviews. During an interview, participants respond to researcher-selected or self-generated images, using visual cues to recall experiences, describe emotions, and connect personal observations with broader social or health-related contexts. In medicine, photo elicitation can illuminate patients’ lived experiences of illness, treatment, healthcare access, and recovery, while also capturing perspectives from families and healthcare professionals. These richer narratives can inform patient-centered care, identify barriers to services, and guide the design of more responsive health interventions.

The elicited imitation procedure was established to examine the development of recall memory in infancy and early childhood. This procedure has been widely used to establish a solid foundation of the nature of recall memory in infancy and early childhood.

An Assay to Detect Oxidative Burst in Arabidopsis Leaf Discs upon Immune Elicitation

2025

This video demonstrates an assay to measure oxidative burst in Arabidopsis leaves upon immune elicitation. Leaf discs, cut from plant leaves, are incubated with bacterial peptides functioning as microbe-associated molecular patterns or MAMPs. Upon detection of the MAMPs, plant cells induce the production of extracellular ROS, which is detected using a chemiluminescence assay.

An Assay for Detecting Reactive Oxygen Species Production in Rice Tissues upon Immune Elicitation

2025

This video demonstrates an assay for real-time detection of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in rice tissues upon pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) elicitation. Cut sheath segments and leaf discs are exposed to a bacterial flagella-derived peptide functioning as a PAMP. Upon recognition of the peptide via pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) on plant cells, a rapid and transient production of ROS occurs, which is detected via a chemiluminescence assay.
