Controlled Cortical Impact

Controlled cortical impact is an experimental model of traumatic brain injury that produces a reproducible focal lesion in the cerebral cortex, making it valuable for neuroscience research. In this technique, a calibrated impactor strikes the exposed brain surface at a defined velocity, depth, and dwell time, mechanically deforming cortical tissue and triggering secondary responses such as edema, neuroinflammation, and neuronal loss. Researchers use controlled cortical impact to investigate injury mechanisms, relate structural damage to behavioral and cognitive deficits, and evaluate potential treatments or rehabilitation strategies. Because its parameters can be systematically adjusted, the model supports standardized comparisons across studies and helps clarify how traumatic brain injury progresses over time.

Drug Control Governance: Regulatory Bodies and Their Impact

2024

Drug control governance involves the oversight and regulation of pharmaceuticals to ensure their safety and efficacy while preventing illegal drug use and trafficking. Regulatory bodies, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Union's European Medicines Agency (EMA), play a central role in this process. These agencies evaluate the safety and efficacy of drugs before they can be marketed. They fund clinical trials and assess the benefits and risks associated with a...
