Human-structure Interaction

Human-structure interaction is the study of how people and physical structures influence one another through forces, motion, and deformation. In physics, a person’s mass, movement, contact forces, and vibration can alter a structure’s response, while the structure’s stiffness, geometry, and dynamic behavior affect human stability, comfort, and perception. Researchers analyze this coupled system using mechanics, structural dynamics, measurements, and computational models. The topic informs the design of bridges, floors, buildings, vehicles, sports equipment, and assistive technologies, helping engineers predict resonance, reduce unwanted vibrations, improve safety, and create structures that respond effectively to human use.

Here, we present detailed protocols for solid-state amide hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (ssHDX-MS) and solid-state photolytic labeling mass spectrometry (ssPL-MS) for proteins in solid powders. The methods provide high-resolution information on protein conformation and interactions in the amorphous solid-state, which may be useful in formulation design.
