European American Participants

European American participants are people who identify with, or are classified within, European American cultural or ancestral backgrounds in psychological research. Researchers typically document this characteristic through self-report demographic measures, then examine how cultural experiences, identity, and social context relate to participants’ responses, behavior, and psychological processes. Including European American participants can support studies of cognition, development, personality, and social behavior, but findings may not generalize across populations when samples lack cultural diversity. Clear reporting of recruitment, identity definitions, and sample composition helps researchers interpret results, evaluate representation, and design more inclusive comparisons across groups.

The American horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus, is arguably the most convenient source for large quantities of blood of any invertebrate. The blood is simple in composition, with only one cell-type in the general circulation, the granular amebocyte, and only three abundant proteins in the plasma, hemocyanin, the C-reactive proteins, and α2-macroglobulin. Blood is collected from the heart and the blood cells and plasma are separated by centrifugation.
