Pharmacotherapy Treatment

Pharmacotherapy treatment is the use of medications to prevent, manage, or reduce symptoms of illness, and in psychology it commonly refers to medication-based care for mental health conditions. These drugs alter signaling in the nervous system by influencing neurotransmitter production, receptor activity, or reuptake, with the medication and dose selected according to symptoms, diagnosis, health history, and response. Used alone or alongside psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy can support recovery in conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia; ongoing monitoring helps clinicians evaluate benefits, side effects, adherence, and the need for treatment adjustments.

The therapy for diabetes aims to alleviate hyperglycemia-related symptoms, prevent acute metabolic decompensation, and reduce chronic end-organ complications. Glycemic control is evaluated through short-term (self-monitoring, continuous glucose monitoring) and long-term (A1c, fructosamine) metrics, enabling near real-time tracking of blood glucose levels and reflecting glycemic control over specific time frames. Insulin remains the cornerstone of treatment for most patients with type 1 and many...
