Electrodeposition

Bei der Elektroabscheidung werden Ionen durch Abscheidung auf einer Elektrode in einer Elektrolysezelle von einer Lösung getrennt.

Metalle wie Kupfer und Nickel mit unterschiedlichen Reduktionspotentialen können durch galvanische Abscheidung getrennt werden.
In einem sauren Medium oxidiert Wasser an der Anode, während Kupfer an der Kathode abgeschieden wird. Die Masse des plattierten Kupfers wird bestimmt und die Elektrode gereinigt.
Dann wird die Lösung basisch gemacht und Nickel auf derselben Elektrode abgeschieden.
Durch die Elektroabscheidung können auch Ionen wie Kupfer zwei plus und Blei zwei plus getrennt werden, die sich auf unterschiedlichen Elektroden ablagern.
Unter sauren Bedingungen oxidieren zwei Plus-Ionen von Blei und lagern sich als Bleidioxid an der Anode ab.
Währenddessen werden zwei Plus-Ionen von Kupfer reduziert und lagern sich als Kupfermetall auf der Kathode ab.

Bei der Elektrodeposition handelt es sich um eine Technik zur Trennung eines Analyten von StörSubstanzenn durch elektrochemische Prozesse. Dabei handelt es sich beim Analyten um ein Metallion, das sich auf einer in die Probenlösung eingetauchten Elektrode abscheiden lässt. Der elektrochemische Aufbau besteht aus einer Anode und einer Kathode. Wenn ein elektrischer Strom an den Aufbau angelegt wird, kommt es zu einer Oxidation an der Anode. An der Kathode, die aus einer großen Metalloberfläche besteht, werden Metallionen reduziert und auf der Oberfläche abgeschieden.

Durch die galvanische Abscheidung können Metalle mit erheblichen Unterschieden in den Reduktionspotentialen abgetrennt werden. Beispielsweise können Kupfer und Nickel in derselben Lösung durch galvanische Abscheidung getrennt werden. Bei diesem Verfahren wird die Lösung zunächst angesäuert. Wenn elektrischer Strom angelegt wird, werden die Wassermoleküle in der Lösung oxidiert, wodurch SauerSubstanz entsteht und Kupfer auf einer Platinkathode abgeschieden wird. Nach dem Wiegen der Kathode zur Bestimmung des Kupfergewichts wird das Kupfer von der Kathode entfernt. Die Lösung wird dann basisch gemacht, Nickel wird auf derselben Platinkathode abgeschieden und sein Gewicht wird durch Wiegen der Elektrode bestimmt.

Die galvanische Abscheidung kann auch zur Trennung von Ionen eingesetzt werden, die sich gleichzeitig auf verschiedenen Elektroden wie Kupfer(II) und Blei(II) ablagern. Blei(II)-Ionen werden in einer Salpetersäurelösung oxidiert und lagern sich als Bleidioxid auf einer Platinanode ab. Währenddessen werden Kupfer(II)-Ionen reduziert und als Kupfermetall auf einer Platinnetzkathode abgeschieden. Die quantitativen Ergebnisse der Elektroabscheidung hängen vom Potenzial und der Größe der Elektroden, der Abscheidungszeit und der Rührgeschwindigkeit ab.

Electrodeposition separates metal ions from a solution by using an electric current and an electrolytic cell. The cell has an anode and a cathode. When current flows, oxidation happens at the anode. At the cathode, metal ions gain electrons, undergo reduction, and deposit on the large metal surface.

This method works well when metals have very different reduction potentials. Copper and nickel in the same solution can be separated this way. First, the solution is made acidic. Then current is applied, water is oxidized to oxygen, and copper deposits on a platinum cathode. The cathode is weighed to find the copper mass, and the copper is then removed.

After that, the same platinum cathode can be used again. The solution is made basic, and nickel is deposited on the electrode. The nickel amount is found by weighing the cathode again. Electrodeposition can also separate ions that deposit on different electrodes at the same time. In nitric acid, lead(II) ions are oxidized and form lead dioxide on a platinum anode, while copper(II) ions are reduced and deposit as copper metal on a platinum gauze cathode.

The results depend on several factors. These include the potential and size of the electrodes, the deposition time, and the stirring rate. These conditions affect how much metal collects on each electrode and how well the separation works.

Understand and be prepared to use values specific to chemical processes: the mole, molar mass, molarity, and percent composition. EXPLANATION: During the early and mid-1800s, a tremendous amount of early research poured into building an understanding of the way that atoms combine. This work required analysis of the percent composition of different substances. Joseph Proust's work with tin oxides led him to publish his law of definite proportions noting that a given pure substance will have a constant ratio for the combination of elements making up the substance. Building on Proust's work, John Dalton published his law of multiple proportions and atomic theory noting that multiple patterns exist for the way that atoms combine, yet the combining atoms are invariable. Meanwhile Amedeo Avogadro hypothesizes that given equal pressures and temperatures, two equal volumes of gas will contain equal numbers of atoms. Acknowledging that the exact number of atoms was unknown in these gaseous volumes, the Latin word "mole" was used. "Mole" translates to "lump" recognizing the ambiguous quantity of gas. A number of attempts have been undertaken historically to quantify the mole. Robert Millikan's oil drop experiment revealed the change of a single electron, which could then be divided into Faraday's Constant for the charge of a mole of electrons. Dividing the charge of a mole of electrons by the charge of a single electron yields the number of electrons in a mole, $6.022\times10^{\wedge}23$. Students should be familiar with how to translate between the given quantities. Student's first use atomism/Dalton's atomic theory in third grade noting that matter is made up of particles too small to be seen. This the first time where students will undertake the process of counting these invisible particles. Electrolysis of water provides a tangible experience to demonstrate the constituent parts of water, though the definite proportions of water may not be easily seen due to the solubility of the gasses produced. The concept of relative mass can be explored by comparing small groups of like items. For example, relative masses of beans can be compared with pinto, white, and black beans. If bags are created with equal numbers of like beans, students can develop a concept of why the smallest bean will have a relative mass of 1, analogous to hydrogen.
