Continuous Passive Motion Machine

A Continuous Passive Motion machine is a rehabilitation device that repeatedly moves a patient’s joint through a controlled range of motion without requiring active muscle effort. The machine supports the limb and uses programmed settings to regulate movement speed, direction, and joint angle, providing consistent motion while the patient remains relaxed. In behavioral and clinical research, this standardized intervention helps researchers and clinicians examine responses to guided movement, including comfort, tolerance, and changes in mobility during recovery. Continuous passive motion can support postoperative rehabilitation and provide a reproducible framework for evaluating how individuals respond to mechanical assistance and structured physical therapy.

The present protocol describes a custom-designed ''passive head motion'' system, which reproduces mechanical accelerations at rodents' heads generated during their treadmill running at moderate velocities. It allows dissecting mechanical factors/elements from the beneficial effects of physical exercise.

AC Synchronous Machine Synchronization

2023

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Three-phase wound-rotor synchronous generators are the main source of electrical power worldwide. They require a prime mover and an exciter in order to generate power. The prime mover can be a turbine spun by fluid (gas or liquid), thus the sources of the fluid can be water running off a dam through a long nozzle, steam from water evaporated using burned coal, etc. Most power plants including coal,...
