Simultaneous Photopolymerization

Simultaneous photopolymerization is a light-triggered technique in which two or more polymer-forming reactions occur concurrently, enabling rapid and coordinated fabrication of complex materials. Upon illumination, photoinitiators generate reactive species that activate compatible functional groups, such as acrylates or thiols, to form covalent polymer networks under controlled spatial and temporal conditions. In bioengineering, this approach supports the production of multi-component hydrogels, composite scaffolds, and precisely patterned structures for tissue engineering, drug delivery, and three-dimensional bioprinting. By combining distinct chemistries in one exposure step, simultaneous photopolymerization can tune mechanical properties, degradation behavior, and biological function while improving fabrication efficiency.

This protocol presents a step-by-step guide for the Simultaneous Label-free Autofluorescence Multi-harmonic (SLAM) microscopic technique, including details on how to generate the laser light source, prepare a tissue sample, conduct imaging, and analyze the data. SLAM advances nonlinear microscopy by measuring four complementary label-free contrasts to investigate the tissue microenvironment.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that has shown initial therapeutic effects in several neurological conditions. The main mechanism underlying these therapeutic effects is the modulation of cortical excitability. Therefore, online monitoring of cortical excitability would help guide stimulation parameters and optimize its therapeutic effects. In the present article we review the use of a novel device that combines simultaneous tDCS and...
