C18 Stage Tips

C18 StageTips are miniature reversed-phase chromatography devices used to clean, concentrate, and fractionate peptide samples before analysis. Their packed C18 silica material retains hydrophobic peptides through nonpolar interactions while salts, detergents, and other polar contaminants pass through during washing; peptides are then recovered by increasing the organic solvent concentration. In biology and proteomics, C18 StageTips provide a low-cost, low-volume approach to sample preparation for liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Effective conditioning, loading, washing, and elution help improve peptide recovery and reduce contaminants, supporting more reliable peptide identification, protein quantification, and downstream analysis.

A STAGE Tip Procedure for Desalting and Purification of Peptides

2026

Source:Tia Rizakos1, Jennifer Geddes-McAlister11Molecular and Cellular Biology Department, University of Guelph. This video demonstrates peptide purification through the STAGE Tip procedure. A miniature column containing resin beads bonded to long hydrocarbon chains facilitates hydrophobic interaction-based purification. Upon loading a pre-digested peptide sample into the column, the peptide fragments bind to the resin beads, allowing impurities to pass through. An elution buffer that disrupts...

Stages of Sleep

2024

Sleep progresses through distinct stages, each characterized by specific brain wave patterns and physiological responses ranging from wakefulness to stages of non-rapid eye movement, known as non-REM, to rapid eye movement, referred to as REM. Understanding these stages helps in recognizing how sleep supports various bodily and cognitive functions. Before sleep begins, in wakefulness, the brain exhibits primarily beta waves, which are high in frequency and low in amplitude, indicating alertness...

Stages of General Anesthesia

Various sedation levels offer significant advantages in facilitating procedural interventions for patients undergoing medical or invasive surgical procedures. These levels span from anxiolysis to general anesthesia, providing a spectrum of sedative effects to cater to specific patient needs. Anxiolysis reduces anxiety and is achieved through minimal sedation, enabling patients to remain awake and responsive while feeling more at ease during the procedure. This level can benefit minor...
