Double Bladed Knife

A double bladed knife is a cutting instrument with two parallel blades designed to make paired, evenly spaced incisions, making it useful for controlled removal or sectioning of biological material. As the knife moves through a specimen, the blades cut simultaneously and define a consistent strip or slice, with spacing and pressure influencing the resulting tissue section. In biology, this design can support specimen preparation, anatomical dissection, and the production of uniform samples for microscopic examination. By improving repeatability and controlling cut dimensions, it helps researchers and students obtain clearer, more comparable material for structural and morphological studies.

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A propeller is a twisted airfoil, where the angle of the chord changes with respect to the location, along the radial station, as shown in Figure 1. Propellers are widely used in aircraft and watercraft propulsion systems thereby necessitating detailed characterizations of propellers to design high performance vehicles. Figure 1. Chord, thickness, and pitch at a radial station. One of...

DNabT cells are rare among peripheral T cells; however, they are abundant in certain non-lymphoid tissues. Difficulty of isolating DN T cells from non-lymphoid tissue hinders their functional analysis despite increasing recognized pathophysiologic significance. We describe a novel protocol for isolation of highly purified DN T cells from murine kidney.

Fixing Double-strand Breaks

2020

The double-stranded structure of DNA has two major advantages. First, it serves as a safe repository of genetic information where one strand serves as the back-up in case the other strand is damaged. Second, the double-helical structure can be wrapped around proteins called histones to form nucleosomes, which can then be tightly wound to form chromosomes. This way, DNA chains up to 2 inches long can be contained within microscopic structures in a cell. A double-stranded break not only damages...
