Gynecological Tumors

Gynecological tumors are abnormal growths arising in the female reproductive system, including the ovaries, uterus, cervix, vagina, and vulva, and may be benign or malignant. They develop when genetic and cellular regulatory changes disrupt normal control of cell division, survival, and tissue organization, allowing some cells to proliferate, evade death, invade nearby tissue, or spread to distant sites. Studying these tumors in biology clarifies how cancer begins and progresses while supporting pathological classification, biomarker identification, screening, and treatment design; research on tumor cells, tissue environments, and molecular alterations also helps improve early detection and develop more precise, less toxic therapies.

2012

Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) involves image-guided, ablative radiation delivered to cancer targets refractory to chemotherapy or to conventional radiation treatment. The robotic-armed Cyberknife SBRT system, using sophisticated target localization, delivers hypofractionated radiation doses capable of sterilizing cancer targets. This article will consider new therapeutic roles of SBRT for gynecological cancers.
