Su-8 Masters

SU-8 masters are durable, patterned molds made from the epoxy-based photoresist SU-8 and used to replicate microscale structures for biological research. During photolithography, ultraviolet light passes through a mask to crosslink selected regions of an SU-8-coated substrate; development removes the unexposed material and leaves a raised relief pattern. Researchers use these masters to mold elastomers such as PDMS into microfluidic channels, cell culture devices, and tissue-engineering platforms. Their precise geometry supports controlled fluid flow, cell positioning, and microscale experiments, making SU-8 masters an important foundation for lab-on-a-chip systems and other bioengineering applications.

Master Transcription Regulators

2020

Master transcription regulators are regulatory proteins that are predominantly responsible for regulating the expression of multiple genes. Often these genes work in concert to drive a complex process. Activation of a master transcription regulator can lead to a cascade of transcriptional activation necessary for that outcome. These regulators can directly bind to the regulatory sequences of the various genes involved, or they can indirectly regulate transcription by binding to regulatory...

Fabrication of a Master Mold for Microneedles with a Micron-sized Air-vent Hole

2025

This article introduces a unique method for fabricating master molds with an air-vent hole to prevent air entrapment during viscous polymer casting, enabling the fabrication of gelatin microneedles with sharp tips. By reducing the casting volume of high-viscosity gelatin, thin-walled hollow pyramidal microneedles could also be fabricated.
