Window Sash

A window sash is the framed portion of a window that holds one or more panes of glass and may move within the larger window assembly. In traditional designs, the sash slides vertically or horizontally along tracks, with counterweights, springs, or friction mechanisms controlling its movement and position. By regulating ventilation, temperature, humidity, and daylight, window sashes influence the environmental conditions experienced by people, plants, and laboratory organisms. In biological research and controlled cultivation, properly designed sashes can support airflow and light management while limiting unwanted heat exchange, helping maintain stable conditions for plant growth, animal care, and other experiments.

Conditioned fear can be diminished through an inhibitory process called extinction, but can resurface under conditions such as the passage of time or exposure to stress. Our protocol presents a novel way of preventing fear recovery by introducing extinction during the reconsolidation window (the re-storage phase of a reactivated memory).

Spinal Cord Window Implantation in a Mouse for In Vivo Imaging

Source: Pietruczyk, E. A., et al. Laminectomy and Spinal Cord Window Implantation in the Mouse. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the implantation of a spinal cord window in an anesthetized mouse for in vivo imaging. The protocol stabilizes the exposed spinal cord using a borosilicate cover glass and a 3D-printed backplate. This method enables high-resolution two-photon microscopy to study blood-brain barrier dynamics and neurovascular interactions.
