Hand-held Homogenizer

A hand-held homogenizer is a portable laboratory device that mechanically disrupts biological tissues or cell suspensions to produce a uniform sample for analysis. Its motor-driven probe rotates at high speed, applying shear and turbulence that break up tissue, disperse cells, and mix sample components; probe size, operating time, and sample volume influence homogenization quality. In cancer research, researchers use it to prepare tumor biopsies, cultured cells, or other specimens for DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, followed by applications such as molecular profiling, biomarker analysis, and biochemical assays. Consistent homogenization supports reproducible measurements while helping process samples directly at the bench.

Test for Homogeneity

2023

The goodness–of–fit test can be used to decide whether a population fits a given distribution, but it will not suffice to decide whether two populations follow the same unknown distribution. A different test, called the test for homogeneity, can be used to conclude whether two populations have the same distribution. To calculate the test statistic for a test for homogeneity, follow the same procedure as with the test of independence. The hypotheses for the test for homogeneity can be stated as...

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Reaching for objects, walking without hitting obstacles, landing on a chair as you sit (instead of falling to the floor), these and all our physical actions depend on an ability to perceive our own bodies in space, to know where our limbs are relative to one another and relative to the rest of the world. One way that the human brain encodes this information is called proprioception, the brain relies on its own control and feedback...

ECM Suspension Preparation: A Technique to Obtain Homogenous Suspension from Tissue-derived Extracellular Matrix

2023

This video describes the preparation of a homogenized and digested extracellular matrix suspension from decellularized and lyophilized tissues. This technique helps in fabricating ECM-derived porous foams and microcarriers for use as substrates in advanced 3D cell culture models.
