Her2 Targeted Therapy

HER2-targeted therapy is a form of precision cancer treatment designed to inhibit tumors with increased levels or amplification of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), a protein that promotes cell growth and survival. Monoclonal antibodies such as trastuzumab and pertuzumab bind HER2 on cancer cells, disrupt receptor signaling, and can recruit immune cells to support antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity; other treatments inhibit HER2-associated kinase activity or deliver cytotoxic agents directly to HER2-positive cells. In cancer research, these therapies guide biomarker-based treatment selection, improve outcomes for some breast and gastric cancers, and provide models for developing increasingly personalized combination strategies.

2021

The targeted cancer therapies, also known as “molecular targeted therapies,” take advantage of the molecular and genetic differences between the cancer cells and the normal cells. It needs a thorough understanding of the cancer cells to develop drugs that can target specific molecular aspects that drive the growth, progression, and spread of cancer cells without affecting the growth and survival of other normal cells in the body. There are several types of targeted therapies against specific...

2017

Fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) is often required in combination with histopathology and molecular diagnostics for selection of therapy in personalized medicine. A novel non-cross-linking, formalin-free tissue fixative that allows high quality morphologic, molecular and FISH analyses from the same specimen by addition of a post-fixation step before FISH is presented.
