Tumorigenesis

Tumorigenesis is the multistep biological process by which normal cells acquire abnormal growth and survival properties, leading to tumor formation and progression. It begins when genetic or epigenetic changes disrupt regulators of cell division, DNA repair, apoptosis, and interactions with surrounding tissues; additional alterations can promote angiogenesis, immune evasion, invasion, and metastasis. In cancer research, studying tumorigenesis helps identify how risk factors and driver mutations initiate disease, how tumors evolve, and why cancers respond differently to treatment. These insights support biomarker development, prevention strategies, early detection, and the design of targeted and combination therapies.

2023

This video describes the protocol for intracardiac injection of retroviruses into the transgenic mouse to ensure gene transfer into proliferating pancreatic β premalignant lesions. This method can also help in assessing the functions of candidate genes in tumor metastasis.

Ovarian Fat Pad Transplantation Assay: An In Vivo Technique to Introduce Cells into Ovarian Fat Pad in Mouse Models
