Immune Checkpoint Markers

Immune checkpoint markers are molecules expressed by immune or tumor cells that regulate immune activation, tolerance, and the ability to recognize cancer, making them important indicators in cancer research. They work through receptor-ligand interactions, such as PD-1 binding PD-L1 or CTLA-4 competing with CD28 for costimulatory signals, which can reduce T-cell activation and promote tumor immune evasion. Researchers measure these markers in tumor tissue and immune cells to characterize the tumor microenvironment, predict responses to checkpoint-blocking therapies, and investigate mechanisms of treatment resistance. Their study supports biomarker development and more precise design of immunotherapies.

The Spindle Assembly Checkpoint

2023

The spindle assembly checkpoint is a molecular surveillance mechanism ensuring the fidelity of chromosome segregation during anaphase. The checkpoint monitors the completion of all the prerequisite steps before chromosome segregation to determine whether the segregation process should proceed or be delayed. Many proteins function together to control the spindle assembly checkpoint. Mutations affecting these proteins may allow cells to proceed into anaphase prematurely, resulting in the...

2012

The kinetochore is where the SAC initiates its signal monitoring the mitotic segregation of the sister chromatids. A method is described to visualize the recruitment and turnover of one of the kinetochore proteins and its coordination with the chromosome motion in Drosophila embryos using a Leica laser scanning confocal system.

Tropomodulin 3 Overexpression as a Marker for Platinum Resistance and Immune Infiltration in Ovarian Cancer

2024

Tropomodulin 3 (TMOD3) has been increasingly studied in tumors in recent years. This study is the first to report that TMOD3 is highly expressed in ovarian cancer and is closely associated with platinum resistance and immune infiltration. These results could help improve the therapeutic outcomes for ovarian cancer.
