Battery Degradation Analysis

Battery degradation analysis is the systematic study of how rechargeable batteries lose capacity, power, and safety over time, supporting reliable energy-storage design and use. In chemistry, it links changes in electrochemical performance to processes such as electrolyte decomposition, loss of active lithium, electrode-structure damage, and impedance growth under repeated cycling, elevated temperature, or high charging rates. Researchers combine charge-discharge testing with measurements of voltage, capacity, resistance, and material composition to identify dominant failure pathways. These analyses help predict service life, optimize electrode and electrolyte formulations, improve battery-management strategies, and guide safer, longer-lasting technologies for electric vehicles and grid storage.
