Barium Esophagogram

Barium esophagogram is a diagnostic imaging study that uses radiopaque contrast to visualize the esophagus and assess causes of swallowing difficulty, structural abnormalities, and impaired transit. During the examination, a patient swallows barium while fluoroscopy and radiographs track its passage, revealing how the contrast coats the esophageal lining and moves through the lumen; additional swallowed substances or positioning may help evaluate function. Clinicians use the study to identify strictures, rings, tumors, diverticula, hiatal hernias, reflux, and motility disorders, supporting differential diagnosis and treatment planning. It can also complement endoscopy when dynamic swallowing information is needed.

A Barium Enema, or a lower GI series, is a specialized radiographic examination designed to visualize the lower gastrointestinal tract, specifically the colon and rectum. This procedure is instrumental in diagnosing various conditions such as colorectal cancer, polyps, diverticulosis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Procedure Details The examination begins by inserting a lubricated rectal tube into the patient's rectum to administer a radiopaque barium solution. The barium flow is carefully...

The Barium Swallow Study, or a Barium Esophagogram, is a diagnostic imaging method used to visualize the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. It employs barium sulfate, a radiopaque contrast material, to provide clear images of the upper digestive system, helping to identify abnormalities, diseases, or structural issues. Purpose and Procedure Patients undergoing this procedure ingest a liquid containing barium sulfate with a chalky...

The preparation and exfoliation of CaCuSi4O10 and BaCuSi4O10 are described. Upon stirring in hot water, CaCuSi4O10 spontaneously exfoliates into monolayers, whereas BaCuSi4O10 requires ultrasonication in organic solvents. Near infrared (NIR) imaging illustrates the NIR emission properties of these materials, and aqueous dispersions of these nanomaterials are useful for solution processing.
